Our Mission
The Eva Burrell Animal Shelter (EBAS) believes that it has the ability and power to effect change one animal at a time. It is our goal to be worthy of their lives to be enriched by their presence and not to miss the lessons they teach. We pledge to educate, to lead by example, to learn, to help when and where we can, to be diligent in our fundraising, and to be worthy of the trust placed in us.
About Us
We operate on a donation basis, with the County Board, City Council, and some Townships contributing a small portion each year towards the operating expenses of the animal shelter. Fundraisers are continual each year, with some favorites being done repeatedly. We have a small paid part-time staff and all other work is done by volunteers - all are worth their weight in gold plus!
Our shelter is named for the lady who operated our county's first animal shelter in her home for 19 years. The new shelter building was opened in 1999, built by volunteers with donated material.
We welcome volunteers, both young and old. We always need 'walkers' for exercising the dogs, and laps for kitties to sit and nap on.
And we always need donations, be it in money, food, kitty litter, treats, bedding, etc.... If unsure, please contact the Shelter.
About Our Animals
All animals in our care receive socializing in order to be adopted, and dogs receive beginning basic obedience manners. All adopted cats and dogs are spayed or neutered; all cats and kittens are tested for feline leukemia and we permit adoption of only those who test healthy. All animals have been wormed, have had initial vaccinations, and are microchipped.
We truly believe we are their voice and, with your help and support, we can make a difference. Thank you for being part of our Team.
